Amish Hamburger Steak Bake

A cozy, one-pan meal featuring savory beef, caramelized onions, and bubbling gravy, perfect for busy nights and family gatherings.

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup onions, chopped
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup cream of mushroom soup
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooking oil (olive or vegetable)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, half of the chopped onions, salt, and pepper; mix until just incorporated.
  3. Form the beef mixture into round patties about 1 inch thick.
  4. In a skillet over medium heat, sear the patties for about 3-4 minutes on each side until browned.
  5. Remove the patties and sauté the remaining onions in the same skillet for 2-3 minutes until soft.
  6. Add beef broth and cream of mushroom soup; stir until well combined.
  7. Place the seared patties back into the skillet, cover with gravy, and transfer to the oven.
  8. Bake for 30 minutes.
  9. Remove from the oven, let rest for a few minutes, and serve warm.

Notes

Pair with mashed potatoes or fresh bread to soak up the gravy.
