Delightfully chewy sugar cookies with a soft center and golden-brown edges, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt; whisk until well mixed.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto lined baking sheets, spaced about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For added flavor, consider using brown sugar or incorporating mix-ins like chocolate chips or nuts. Chilling the dough can enhance chewiness.
