Chewy Sugar Cookies

These Chewy Sugar Cookies are a delightful balance of sweetness and tender texture, perfect for any occasion.

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract (optional)
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and 1 1/4 cups of granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using) to the butter and sugar mixture, and mix well.
  4. Gradually incorporate the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt into the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and coat each ball in the remaining 1/4 cup of granulated sugar.
  6. Place the sugar-coated dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, spaced about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10–11 minutes, or until the cookies are set and lightly golden around the edges.
  8. Remove from the oven and allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For a more flavorful cookie, consider adding a pinch of cinnamon. Store cookies in an airtight container for up to one week.
