Chocolate Turtle Cake

A decadent dessert featuring rich chocolate, creamy caramel, and crunchy pecans, perfect for any celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well and then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually alternate adding the dry ingredients with buttermilk to the butter-sugar mixture, starting and ending with the flour mixture.
  6. Fold in chopped pecans and chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  7. Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Once cool, layer cakes with caramel sauce and top with more sauce and chopped pecans, if desired.

Notes

For the best mixing, ensure all ingredients are at room temperature. Consider adding toasted coconut or using walnuts instead of pecans for variation.
