Cream Cheese Danishes

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 puff pastry sheets, slightly thawed
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 1/2 cup jam, jelly, or chocolate chips
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400º F.
  2. Beat the softened cream cheese and granulated sugar until smooth, then mix in the egg yolk, lemon juice, and vanilla until well combined.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface and cut them into squares, pricking the centers lightly with a fork.
  4. Brush the edges of each pastry square with a mixture of whisked egg white and water.
  5. Spoon the cream cheese filling onto the center of each pastry square and top with your choice of jam, jelly, or chocolate chips.
  6. Place the pastries on a lined baking sheet and bake for 15 to 18 minutes.
  7. Whisk together the powdered sugar and milk for the glaze until smooth and pourable.
  8. Cool slightly and drizzle the glaze over the pastries before serving.

Notes

Ensure cream cheese is at room temperature for a smooth filling. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
