Crockpot French Onion Beefloaf

A comforting dish that brings together the rich flavors of caramelized onions and ground beef, topped with melted Swiss cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 900 grams ground beef
  • 120 grams breadcrumbs
  • 50 grams grated Parmesan cheese
  • 60 milliliters whole milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 15 milliliters Worcestershire sauce
  • 5 grams fine sea salt
  • 2 grams freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 large yellow onions
  • 28 grams unsalted butter
  • 240 milliliters beef broth
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese

Instructions

  1. Blend the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, milk, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  2. Form the beef mixture into a loaf shape and arrange it at the base of the crockpot.
  3. Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until golden, about 20 minutes.
  4. Stir the beef broth into the caramelized onions and let absorb for about 2 minutes.
  5. Spoon the onion and broth mixture over the beefloaf in the crockpot.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours, until the loaf is cooked through.
  7. Layer the Swiss cheese slices on top 10 minutes before serving, cover, and let melt.
  8. Slice and serve warm with the melted cheese and onions on top.

Notes

Make sure to mix the ingredients gently to avoid toughening the meat. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for 2 months.
