Double Chocolate Banana Bread

A super moist banana bread with rich chocolate flavor, perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 and 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened natural cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons semi-sweet chocolate chips for topping
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt or sour cream, at room temperature
  • 1 and 1/2 cups mashed bananas (about 4 medium or 3 large)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan to prevent sticking.
  2. Whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Add 3/4 cup of the chocolate chips and mix until evenly coated.
  3. Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until smooth and fluffy.
  4. Incorporate the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition.
  5. Add the yogurt (or sour cream), mashed bananas, and vanilla extract, stirring until blended.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients, mixing gently until just combined. Pour in the hot water and blend until smooth.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and sprinkle the remaining 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips on top.
  8. Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  9. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Make sure your bananas are overripe for the best flavor. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
