Homemade Biscuits

Fluffy, buttery, and slightly sweet homemade biscuits, perfect for breakfast or any time you crave a comforting treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed and very cold
  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoons cold buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons butter, melted (for topping)
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon honey (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven: Set your oven to 425°F (218°C) to ensure it’s hot and ready for baking.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir well to blend them evenly.
  3. Cut in the butter: Add the very cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Incorporate wet ingredients: Pour the cold buttermilk and honey into the mixture. Gently fold everything together until just combined, being careful not to overwork the dough.
  5. Shape the dough: On a lightly floured surface, turn out the dough. Gently press and shape it to about 1-inch thickness without kneading.
  6. Cut out the biscuits: Use a biscuit cutter to cut out circles from the dough. Place the cut biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake: Slide the baking sheet into the preheated oven and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.

Notes

For perfectly flaky biscuits, use very cold ingredients and handle the dough as little as possible. Store biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.
