Homemade Cheddar Biscuits

Warm, flaky homemade cheddar biscuits with a touch of garlic and melted butter make for the perfect accompaniment to any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon aluminum-free baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed and very cold
  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoons cold buttermilk, divided
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for topping)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (for topping)
  • 1 teaspoon dried or fresh chopped parsley (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C).
  2. Combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, and salt in a bowl or food processor. Mix until well combined.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
  5. Make a well in the center, pour in 1 cup of cold buttermilk and honey. Gently combine until just incorporated; avoid overmixing.
  6. Knead gently on a floured surface for about 30 seconds. Shape into a rectangle, fold into thirds, and repeat folding three times.
  7. Cut the dough into circles using a biscuit cutter or glass, and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. Brush tops with remaining buttermilk for golden finish.
  9. Bake for 18-22 minutes until tops are golden brown.
  10. Mix melted butter, garlic powder, and parsley in a small bowl while baking.
  11. Brush baked biscuits with garlic butter mixture. Serve warm.

Notes
