  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk (for frosting)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract; mix until combined.
  4. Carefully stir in the boiling water to create a thin batter.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. For the frosting, beat together the butter and cocoa powder until blended.
  9. Gradually add the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  10. Once cool, place one cake layer on a serving plate, frost the top, and add the second layer. Frost the top and sides of the cake.
