Sweet Alabama Pecan Bread

A cozy, nutty loaf with a tender crumb, perfect for brunch or as a snack.

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or regular milk + 1 tsp lemon juice/vinegar)
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, stirring until smooth. Then mix in the buttermilk until fully incorporated.
  4. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk briefly.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined.
  6. Fold in the chopped pecans gently for even distribution.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For better flavor, toast pecans before chopping. Wrap tightly for storage.
