A delicious and moist yellow cake topped with rich chocolate frosting, perfect for any celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this to the creamed mixture, alternating with milk, mixing until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. For the frosting, beat together softened butter and cocoa powder until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and heavy cream, mixing until fluffy.
  9. Once cooled, layer the cake on a serving plate, adding frosting in between layers, and cover the top and sides with frosting.
  10. Slice the cake, serve, and enjoy!

Notes
